Hong Kong PR Requirements(Right of Abode)

These are the requirements to apply for Hong Kong PR visa:

  • The applicant has to belong to one of the 6 categories that are given under the second paragraph of the First Schedule to the Immigration Ordinance
  • The applicant has to fulfil the requirements that are given under the sixth paragraph of the First Schedule to the Immigration Ordinance

Categories of eligibility

These are the available categories for Chinese citizens:

  • Being born in Hong Kong either before or after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR)’s establishment
  • Having resided in Hong Kong for at least 7 years before or after the HKSAR’s establishment
  • Being born outside Hong Kong before or after the HKSAR’s establishment to someone who fell in either of the 2 categories above, at the time of that person’s birth

These are the available categories for non-Chinese citizens:

  • Someone who entered Hong Kong with a valid travel document, stayed there for at least 7 years, and selected the country as their place of residence before or after the HKSAR’s establishment
  • Someone who is less than 21 years old who was born in Hong Kong to a parent who is a permanent resident of the HKSAR under the above category either before or after the HKSAR’s establishment, in the case that the parent had a PR in Hong Kong during their child’s life at any time before they became 21
  • Someone who had a PR in Hong Kong before the HKSAR’s establishment

Documents required for a Hong Kong PR visa

These are the documents that are needed for a Hong Kong PR visa:

  • Application forms(Right of Abode)
  • Proper resume
  • Passport copies that have been held by the applicant
  • Tax returns(last 7 years)
  • Travel records
  • Letter with details of the applicant’s life
  • ID copies
  • Reference letters from past employers
  • Testimonial from the present employer
  • Proof of residence
